North Stradbroke Island, locally referred to as ‘Stradbroke’
or ‘Straddie’, is one of the largest sand islands (Fraser
Island being the largest) in the world. North Stradbroke Island
is situated at the southern end of Moreton Bay and is easily accessible
by ferry from Cleveland.
North Stradbroke Island is a picturesque place with an enticing
blend of rugged coastal landscape, tranquil inland lakes, and unspoilt
pristine of white sandy beaches that stretch into an endless horizon
fringed by the aqua blue ocean.
Whales, dolphins, turtles and manta rays can be seen from the spectacular
Point Lookout at the northern tip of the island. Stradbroke Island
contains important wetlands, freshwater lakes, waterways and lagoons.

swimming opportunities
The three townships still have a village atmosphere with a variety
of cafés and restaurants.

4WD Eco Tour on North Stradbroke Island
After pick up from your Brisbane accommodation you head to Cleveland
and take a fast water taxi ride to "Straddie". When you
arrive at 9.30am you will be meet those of you who are meeting us
at Dunwich, and then head off and explore Brown Lake. This is a
perched lake and is medicinal to swim in.
You then head through the National Park and drive onto Main Beach
- 32 kilometres of pure white sand. Enjoy a fun drive over a sand
bank into another fresh water lake called the Keyholes. You can
then relax with a cup of tea and some Aussie damper for morning
tea.
Afterwards you head back to the beach and drive to Point Lookout's
North Gorge. From here you may see Dolphins, Sharks, Manta Rays
and Turtles. The Humpback Whale can be seen between June and November
each year.
From this scenic outlook you head back to Flinders beach for a
BBQ on the beach. Enjoy steak, sausage, garden salad, homemade bread
and a fruit drink in the best dining room in the world.
You can use the fishing rods and bait which are supplied for free
while lunch is prepared. Or perhaps you'd prefer to go for a swim,
collect shells or simply relax.
After lunch you’ll head to Amity Point - a great little township
with fishing boats towed by all sorts of tractors. You can walk
out to the jetty and see what fish are about. On the way back home
you’ll stop at Myora Springs where there is a chance of spotting
a Koala. A short drive and you are back from where the tour commenced.
If you are heading back to Brisbane, you will be taken by water
taxi back to Cleveland and return to your hotel at about 5.00pm
complete with memories and plenty of photos.
