32 (52) Dunk Island

Dunk Island is a picturesque island with a 271 metre bump at its center. It’s a tough walk around the island but very rewarding.

There is a cafe and bar at the southern end of the main beach (Brammo Bay). There is also a camping ground on the National Park.

The resort on the island is ideally suited to love stuck, joint at hip couples and those escaping from their children.

Dunk Island is accessible from Mission Beach.

Dunk Island Kayak

Leave South Mission Beach and paddle across to Dunk Island - this is an easy paddle and no experience is necessary. Whilst crossing you might see some dolphins and turtles. You will then stop at a nearby island for a mid morning snack before exploring the shallow waters of beautiful Dunk Island.

Beautiful Dunk Island

On Dunk Island you can enjoy a walk through the rainforest and learn about the island ecology and history, then continue onto a secluded bay to swim in the warm clear tropical waters. Lunch will be a selection of delicious salads, cold cuts and tropical fruit.

Fish Dunk

After lunch you'll have time to relax on the beach or try snorkeling to get a closer look at the coral and tropical fish of the fringing reef. You will return to your kayak for the afternoon paddle to further explore the nearby islands before you head back to the mainland.

33 (26) Best of All Lookout - Mudgeeraba, Gold Coast

Stroll the easy, short 700m to the highest lookout on Springbrook Plateau, Springbrook National Park to enjoy the outstanding panoramic view across Mount Warning to Byron Bay and Coolangatta.

Along with the great views this is a World Heritage Area of Antarctic Beech, rainforest and abundant bird life

As with most walks in Queensland best experienced early or late in the day. Please stick to the path and stand back from the edge of the cliffs.

34 (76) Airlie Beach, Whitsundays

Airlie Beach, the gateway to the Whitsundays, an overused phase (sorry, I won’t do it again) Apart from being a great base (not much better) to explore the Whitsundays, Airlie Beach has that holiday, relaxed tropical feel that can act like fly paper to over stressed city folk.

Suddenly you find the motivation to change careers, and in some cases, change your entire life. So be warned. Also remember there are such things as the rainy season and the occasional cyclone if you choose to live up here. Personally, I think it is part of the attraction but don’t listen to people like me.

Abel Point Airlie Beach Marina

Back to ‘work’, from the road above Abel Point Marina you can enjoy expansive views of the indented coastline, the aquamarine sea and the glimpse of distant tropical Whitsunday islands on the horizon.

Airlie lagoon

Landscaped parkland and village streets overlooking the bay fringe the vast Airlie lagoon.

Airlie Beach market

Airlie Beach market takes over the foreshore parkland every Saturday. You can stock up on your fruit and veggies, pick up a gift or two or people watch under the shade of a coconut palm.

At night there is range of places to go and be seen and clubs to party in but don’t forget the early start. If you want to rest do it on a boat or the beach. Don’t waste valuable holiday time in bed, at least, not on your own.
