I wonder why it is called Whitehaven?
Whitehaven Beach is a must Whitsunday thing to do because it is just dazzling!
The beach is a brilliant carpet of white sand stretching over six kilometres in length. Be prepared to be dazzled.
This pristine expanse of almost pure silica sand gives the beach and the area surrounding it a clean and fresh appearance. The white sand is fringed by brilliant blue water and lush tropical islands.
All the way from the Gold Coast and Fraser Island
It is believed that most of the sand comes from Fraser Island. An along shore drift system transports the sand whilst eliminating all the heavy mineral sands. The other impurities are also filtered out leaving the pure quartz sand.

The eddy effect in the Bay is believed to make the sand drop and accumulate at the beach.
