Tall Ship Cruise and Magnetic Island

If you don't have the
time to experience the full majesty of the area, a day or many spent
on Magnetic Island is a fantastic break. Over 90% of the Island
is green with half of that is National Park. Magnetic Island scores
highly as an attractive escape destination. The Island has 36 kilometres
of bush and bay tracks. If you walk far enough you are bound to
find one to yourself.
You can hire most forms
of transport from limos to push bikes. Watch out for the cute looking
Rock Wallabies. Magnetic Island is just 27 nautical miles from the
Great Barrier Reef and a twenty-five minute ferry ride (see below)
from Townsville.
Travel to Magnetic Island
by Ferry (return trip)
In just 25 minutes, the
ferry will take you to the beautiful Magnetic Island. Aboard the
air-conditioned vessel, you will have access to a licensed bar and
snacks as well as there is free tea and coffee. The outside decks
allow you to catch the sea breeze. Three ferries and up to 15 trips
per day take the locals and holiday makers across to the beautiful
Magnetic Island. You can choose to stay for a half day, full day
or overnight. Once you have purchased your ticket, you are able
to travel to and from the Island at a time that suits you.

What a perfect way to
end the day with a peaceful sunset cruise on our magnificent tall
ship.
Leaving the port, you set off in the late afternoon to make our
way around to West Point - an area of the island that is best know
for catching sun sets. Sit back and relax while enjoying a few tasty
snacks on board and watch the moon rise over the water. Afterwards
you'll sail back to the harbour in the tranquil moonlight.
This is currently the
only tall ship in the Townsville region. She is a family-owned topsail
classic schooner perfect for adventure sailing in a bygone era and
a replica of the Gloucestershire schooner one of the first vessels
to sail in the America's Cup in the 1870s.

A day of relaxation

refreshments of your choice at Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve overlooking
the panoramic Glasshouse Mountains or perhaps take the time to walk
in the sub tropical rainforest before going to Maleny Mountain Wines
to sample quality wines in a relaxed and friendly environment.
Local art and
produce are featured in the big barrel where the tastings are held.
This is enjoyable and informative with some humour on the side.
You can watch cheese, yoghurt and butter being made on the premises
at Maleny Cheese. Tastings of the exquisite range of premium quality
dairy goods are provided, whilst the friendly staff will tell you
some of the background and working of this successful local produce.
Ask about the
handmade Swiss chocolates and see if you can resist. Travelling
north along the range brings panoramic views to the Sunshine Coast,
Lake Baroon and green rolling hills.
Arriving in
Montville we head for Settlers Rise Vineyard & Winery, nestled
amongst the vines is a beautiful old Queenslander homestead with
welcoming wide verandahs. Settle
in to enjoy the excellent range of award winning wines presented
in style by the team at Settlers Rise. You will come away with a
greater understanding of Queensland wines. Stunning coastal &
valley views are a bonus of this total experience.
Lunch at Le Relais Bressan
restaurant is a gourmet delight in the flavours of French provincial
cooking. Your host Theirry provides an authentic atmosphere with
fine food, wine and quality service.
Flaxton Grove
Estate is a beautiful venue with the cellar door opening out to
rose gardens and the panorama of the Coast beyond. Relax and enjoy
the range of Queensland wines presented in this tranquil location.

Not sure if this started
the tree-hugging movement but there was some seriously big tree
hugs at the time of Sky Rails construction. The Sky Rail is there
now and the trees it replaced are not so you may as well enjoy it.

The Barron Falls Station
has great views of the magnificent waterfall, particularly during
or soon after a good rainy season. Visit the CSIRO Interpretative
Centre at Barron Falls Station for more than you need to know about
he plants and animals of the area.
Skyrail Rainforest Cableway
is open from 8.15am to 5.15pm all year except for Christmas Day.
Gondolas swing continually from all stations commencing at 8:30am
till 4:00pm. The whole trips last and hour and a half one-way with
twenty minutes at each station. Like who you are with is my advice.

or late afternoon to avoid the crowds.

Along with the Bridge,
glow-worms and the rest there are a number of lookouts over lush
rainforest. The is a magical spot. Tip, if you take the path in
an anti-clockwise clockwise direction it possible to push a stroller
and possibly even a wheelchair to the lookout. Stick
to paths, stay behind fences and please keep a close eye on your
children.
